Act One, Scene Two

I went to an adaptation of Cinderella/Annie yesterday.  It was pretty cute to see the 7/8 year old interpretation of the story.  Lots and lots of little girl giggles.

Honeymoon's Over

I threw Easton to the wolves this morning.  Right before we walked out to the bus stop he told me he was too scared to go and I told him he had to.  My words held no drama and a neutral tone, we go to school, that's the rule.  Once the bus pulled up he stuck to my leg like super glue and the tears started streaming.  My heart shattered into a million little pieces, but, I'll be damned if he saw me waiver.  So, I told Kennedy to grab his hand and I shoved him (literally pried him off of me and shoved him) on to the bus yelling, "have a great day buddy!"  Judy the bus driver looked at me with angst and all the other parents looked at me with a glad-its-your-kid-not-mine sympathetic look.  I watched the bus drive off and his head was buried in Kennedy's lap.  Choke.  Sob.  Gasp.

Thank goodness for big sisters who really really love their baby brothers.  I'm pretty sure she made everything OK for him.

Off the bus he was happy and excited.  The report from him...I was sad for a second, but, Kennedy held my hand and made me feel better.  I played Power Rangers with the other boys and we chased the girls on the playground, I did this thing with the flag where I covered my heart, we read the first chapter in Magic Tree House but I told my teacher I'd already read it.

Shaky start...but, day 2 success!

First Day 2012

You both hold a very important key as you embark on the first day of second grade and kindergarten respectively.  It is the key to your potential.   Please, as your mother, I am asking you to use it and use it often.  It can equip you with knowledge and allow you creativity.  It will take you to places you never could have imagined.  Spread your wings on this new adventure and fly.

Now... cutting to the chase....I was nervous for Easton this morning.  Big changes arrived today and it started with a bus ride and moved to finding his way on his own at a big school with lots of people.  Luckily it was all on familiar ground with lots of loving eyes watching over him.  His big sister had direct orders from me to watch his 6.  I also asked a good friend to keep an eye out for him as well (her kids are walkers).  He was all smiles getting off the bus.  He told me all about how he was writing from left to right, sang a song he already knew from preschool and even got to play dinosaurs with some new friends.  Welcome to Kindy little man!

My second grader, let's just say there isn't an ounce of worry in me about her day being anything other than great.  She was wishing for school to start last week.  She was dancing around this morning singing about how excited she was and could hardly wait to go out to the bus stop.  I can't wait to watch you this year Kennedy!

Now that the first day has come and gone.  I gotta say...I'm gonna like this whole morning-all-to-myself thing.
