East had his final soccer game of the season tonight. The
weather was special ordered (perfect) and the boy was his usual spunky self.
He has had an on-again off-again relationship with soccer this
spring, they almost broke up when he refused to participate at practice.
Before most practices his tummy started to hurt, or his pinkie was sore,
or his shoes didn't fit right...it became a pretty old song and dance. We
had to have several conversations about sticking with something you start or
facing the consequences (i.e., paying Mommy and Daddy the registration fee if
you are not going to play). The registration fee thing didn't really register
until I told him, "I know you don't have $95 to pay me, so, you can just
pay me in Legos since you do have $95 worth of them." Whoa!
Message received! Since that little chit-chat our son has been
over-eager for all soccer related activities.
He plays hard, really hard. When he's on the field he has an
intensity about him that is unmatched. But, he is also out there doing
his signature happy dance and making his sound effects. It's a pretty
good balance of the whole work-hard play-hard philosophy. The final game
of the season ended in a final play in which Easton scored a goal!
