Go Big Red!

Kennedy and her Big Red teammates had their last soccer game on Thursday. It was a great opportunity for her to gain self confidence and be physically active. She is a "Can Do" girl and loved everything about it. What I loved about it was that she met new friends, focused on teamwork, improved her individual skills and most importantly had fun.

I am constantly reminding myself that she is her own person, not an extension of me. I may have played soccer as a kid and enjoyed it but that doesn't mean she has to. Great if she does but OK if she doesn't. So, out loud I commit to fostering her own interests and empowering her to find her very own strengths.

It is one of my greatest hopes for her that she is a confident girl who embraces the belief that she can achieve anything, and then consistently exceeds her own expectations.

Got Marrow?

Last night we attended the National Marrow Donor Program's annual gala and silent auction. It is a near and dear cause for my family and an event that I always look forward to. My mom and dad were on the planning committee and spent countless hours with all the details that go along with a large fundraising event. I donated several items from Grape Jelly Designs to the silent auction and I got this crazy rush at watching people bid on them. But truly, my one hope for the evening is for the circle to be broadened with more people recognizing the need for marrow and cord blood donors. Yeah for the Be the Match Foundation and all the good it does! If you're not already on the donor registry...I highly recommend it. Lifesaving act.

The theme for the night was "A Tribute to Research" so there was a lot of double helix (DNA) going on. In true nerd fashion Dr. Vance sports his double helix tie....it was a hit!!
There was even DNA dessert!

Kindergarten Cuteness

I pledge allegiance…to all flags.

Kennedy learned the pledge in school and now that she’s got it all memorized she feels it only appropriate to use it often. Whenever she sees an American flag (anywhere) she stops and looks right up the flag pole, puts her hand over her heart and recites the pledge of allegiance. It is very cute!
